The next iPod touch has a 5MP camera for WiFi video calls

Apple is preparing a refresh iPod touch with a 5 megapixel camera, front-facing webcam for WiFi FaceTime video calls, and the same accelerometer and gyroscope as updates on the iPhone in April, claims UK retailer John Lewis. The predictions – of John Lewis said Electricpig from “noise we’ve heard from suppliers” – suggests that the traditional September refresh of Apple’s PMP touchscreen will see it as a device for multimedia integrated youth market.

The 5 megapixel camera, the retailer has heard, will support HD video – presumably the same as the iPhone HD 720p in April – along with the use of an LED flash for low light photography. The iPod touch also receive direct YouTube uploads, we will see if your system is updated so that it can comfortably run iMovie for iPhone.

Meanwhile, the games will focus on new motion sensors, and Apple will continue pushing their video calls by bringing functionality in the iPod touch FaceTime times. None of this is official, of course, and we are not sure that the sources of John Lewis’ are exactly, but neither sounds preposterous, especially given Apple’s movements have been doing in recent months.
